This musical is the story of Private Johnny Perkins, who has been sent on a mission to defuse a bomb that was intended to destroy a village. Upon his arrival, Private Perkins discovers that the inhabitants of the town have evacuated, leaving only escaped inmates from the insane asylum who have taken over the town. They proclaim Johnny as their leader, or King of Hearts. King of Hearts was first produced on Broadway in 1978, and is based upon the 1966 film “Le Roi de Coeur.”
