Guitar ClassWe are asking that all currently enrolled Academy High School families and Academy 8th grade families complete a survey stating your intention on which Academy Program you plan to attend. The survey is binding and must be submitted by February 28th. If you change your mind, you can resubmit the survey anytime.

Blood At The Root

In a small town in September 2006, a black student asked permission from school administrators to sit under the shade of a tree commonly reserved for white students. The next day, three nooses in the school colors were hanging from the same tree.

This bold new play by Dominque Morisseau examines the miscarriage of justice, racial double standards, and the crisis in relations between men and women of all classes.

Parents, Friends, and Alumni Association (PFAA)

Parents and alumni may participate in a very active Parents, Friends, and Alumni Association.  PFAA members work together to enhance the visibility of the Arts Academy and to plan special events that generate revenue for the school, and to support the efforts of parents of artistically gifted students. Super Bowl Commercial Have Alumni Connection
Super Bowl LIII not only brought another Patriots win but also brought us some memorable commercials. Two of those commercials have ties to the Academy in that they feature the work of Academy alumni. First, the popular HBO show Game of Thrones teamed up with Bud Light for a commercial spoof of the show featuring the beer brand’s famous mascot “The Bud Knight.”

Scholastic Awards
Creative Writers to Compete Nationally
Several creative writers from the CREC Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts have been recognized for their poetry and essay writing with some taking home the top regional prize. The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards is a regional and national awards program that honor students from grades 7-12 within the 29 categories of art and writing. Submissions are judged first locally by a panel of accomplished visual and literary artists. Panelists look for works that exemplifies a student’s personal artistic voice, originality, and technical skills.

Keep Hartford Warm
Academy Volunteers Give Warmth to Cold Residents
Students at the CREC Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts lent their time and hearts in a spirit of helping a city stay warm. In an initiative called “Keep Hartford Warm,” students Ashley Harris, Trinade Gonzalez, Libby Veneziano, and David Lawrence volunteered their time to hand out winter coats and other necessities to the homeless and sheltered of the city.
