Comfort Cases

Children in foster care travel frequently from home to home and many times it is at very last minute notice. In 2013, a organization called “Comfort Cases” was formed to supply children in foster homes with a duffel bag along with essentials.

Very recently, students from the CREC Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Full Day and elementary students from CREC Ana Grace Academy teamed up to help raise funds for Comfort Cases. The effort started in Julie Nunez’s sophomore class where her students read about the group’s founder Rob Scheer. This sparked the interest of the group who decided to take it upon themselves to hold a fundraiser.

Meanwhile, at Ana Grace Academy, student and Connecticut’s Kid Governor Ella Briggs, heard about the efforts of her high school counterparts and a partnership was forged. A strong advocate for LGBTQ issues, Briggs took to the fundraiser as many children are forced out of homes by families who do not accept them. Together, the two groups held an art gallery and raised enough funds to put together several comfort cases.
