Upperclassmen at the CREC Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts enjoyed an afternoon of performances from alumni. On September 5, former students Klokwize, Brittany Melvin, Olivia Ciaffaglione, Brian Swormstedt and others put on a performance to current students. Each alum shared memories of their time at Academy along with words of wisdom.

The afternoon started with a hip hop performance from recording artist Klockwize (Patrick O'Sullivan class of 2007). “There are some people who will not get what you’re trying to do but don’t give up," O'Sullivan said during his 20 minute set. “Be relentless!”

Olivia Ciaffaglione sang a few songs and spoke of her time singing with Broadway and screen legend Kristen Chenoweth.  Brian Swormstedt, who is now an instructor at the Academy’s Creative Writing/Media Arts department, shared a film he made with puppets. He mentioned how he found his love for puppetry and film at the Academy and took an independent study with artist instructor Debra Walsh.

The afternoon concluded with recording artist and radio personality Brittany Crush (Brittany Melvin). Melvin worked with Marc Anthony after graduating from the Hartt School with a degree in music business management.  “There is no place like Academy,” she told the audience. “If it weren’t for Academy, I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing.”
