The CREC Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts (GHAA) is pleased to announce dance works by an impressive range of accomplished guest choreographers and promising new alumni talents featured in the 15th Annual Choreographers’ Showcase this fall!

While students at GHAA, all three alumni Joe, Trezon, and Mytisha, performed in Choreographers’ Showcase concert so they are delighted to return now as guest choreographers.

Joseph Heitman is a 2013 Academy dance major alumnus who continued to study dance at Hartt earning a BFA in 2017. He brings his original work, “Bolt”, to Choreographers’ Showcase. Currently, Joseph is forming his own dance company with his collaborator Jes Wittig.

Academy alumnus, Trezon Dancy, shares his two pieces, “Unbreakable Light” and “Rhythm Drive”. Trezon recently received his BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography from Ohio University and just began his first season with the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company.

Sharing another original choreography on the program is 2013 GHAA graduate, Mytisha Leach from Vernon. Mytisha choreographed the closing number, “Freebird.” She is currently studying Health Science at the University of Hartford where she also performs in the Fenomena Hip Hop Dance Team.

Also featured on the program are established choreographers Kate St. Amand, Co-Artistic Director and choreographer of Syren Modern Dance; Maiya Redding from NYC; and Ryoko Kudo, staging choreography by Carla Maxwell. Ryoko spent more than 10 years touring internationally with the Limón Dance Company. Kate is Co-Artistic Director of Syren Dance Company. Maiya Redding is an emerging new talent from NYC.

Academy dancers began learning the choreography in August and will continue in rehearsal until the end of October performance. This year’s dancers perform an exciting mix and range from classical to contemporary choreography to music by Schubert and Chopin, as well as African and Hip Hop.
