Keep Hartford WarmStudents at the CREC Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts lent their time and hearts in a spirit of helping a city stay warm. In an initiative called “Keep Hartford Warm,” students Ashley Harris, Trinade Gonzalez, Libby Veneziano, and David Lawrence volunteered their time to hand out winter coats and other necessities to the homeless and sheltered of the city. Their efforts were led by Academy English teacher Greg Garcia for the second year in a row. Throughout the month, Garcia and his student volunteers gathered donations from the school community. Then on Saturday, January 26, they set up at the Burr Mall just outside the Wadsworth Athenaeum. In preparation, local shelters were contacted a week in advanced. Their location however was in proximity to the Hartford City Library, where many of the city’s sheltered and homeless residents stay inside during the day in order to keep warm.
