Jazz students from CREC’s Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts set out to compete in the annual High School Jazz Festival and returned with a winner. On Saturday, February 10, students from the Academy’s Jazz Combos and Jazz Choir set out to Boston's Hynes Convention Center to compete in the annual Berklee High School Jazz Festival. Around 200 ensembles coming from around the Northeast performed throughout the day to a panel of Berklee’s top faculty. Groups competing range from jazz combos, big band, and vocal ensembles.

This year, Academy Senior Talia Quagliaroli, from Wethersfield, came home with an award for outstanding musicianship. Talia is a music vocal major at the Academy and has performed in the Jazz Choir, and other productions such as Clamour and Ranting, and as Nina in last year’s spring musical of “In the Heights.” We are very proud of her achievements.
