Musicians from the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts ended their week dancing to the sounds of funk. On Thursday, April 21, music students all gathered in the recital hall where they were given a free concert from Afro Cuban Funk group Cimafunk. The concert was just one of many stops on their northeastern tour which included Hartford’s Real Artways that same night.

The concert hall was filled with enthusiastic music students who danced in the aisles before being invited on stage to dance. When the show was over, the whole music department posed with the group. The day ended with an impromptu jam session from several of the music students.

A few weeks prior, a representative for the group, who has heard about the Academy, reached out to music dept. chair Gene Bozzi with the offer to perform for the students. Seeing it as a great opportunity to bring in a guest artist, Bozzi took her up on the offer.
