Film Maker At the CREC Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Full Day, students direct their own artistic path. Under the guidance of artist professionals, high school students choose from a variety of courses in Music, Dance, Media Production, Creative Writing, Graphic Design, and Theater. Our classes are designed to bring out the full creative and expressive voice in the student.  Young artists who attend our program also receive their state accredited academic courses throughout the day. Our curriculum is academically rigorous demanding the highest standards of performance from our faculty and students. The majority of our graduates are accepted to college.

Choral GroupEnrollment to the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Full Day is done through the Regional School Choice Office (RSCO) and enrollment is chosen by lottery. Any student with the desire to create is encouraged to apply. The lottery opens November 1st, 2019 and closes February 28th. You can learn more information from one of the many information sessions listed below.

Prospective Student Open Houses

  • Tuesday, November 26 at 5 p.m.
    (Snow date: Tuesday, December 3 at 5 p.m.)
  • Saturday, December 7 at 10 a.m. (Snow date: Saturday, December 14 at 10 a.m.)
  • Wednesday, January 22 at 5 p.m. (Snow date: Thursday, January 23 at 5 p.m.)

All prospective student open house events will be at 160 Huyshope Ave, Hartford, CT. We are located inside the Colt Building.

Art for Justice
It was a night of activism and performances. On June 5th, Sophomores from the CREC Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Full Day came together to raise awareness of a multitude of issues. The event, titled “Social Justice Extravaganza,” was organized by English teachers Julie Nunes and Caine Schlenker. Approximately 90 people were in attendance at Hartford’s Studio 224 where young artists performed original poetry, music, interpretive dances, monologues, and spoken word.

Comfort Cases
Two Academies Help Foster Children
Children in foster care travel frequently from home to home and many times it is at very last minute notice. In 2013, a organization called “Comfort Cases” was formed to supply children in foster homes with a duffel bag along with essentials. Creativity in the Community
Teaching Self-Image Through Art
High school students are using art to teach others about positive self-image. Art students in the “Creativity in the Community” class recently created posters to hang at Ana Grace Academy, an elementary magnet school focused on the arts. The posters are on the theme of positive self-image with messages such as “Only You Can Define You,” “don’t let others arrange you, Be yourself,” and “Don’t Dream It, Be It.” The work was requested by Justin Banks who works as the director of the arts for Ana Grace.
